  • Eat to stop cravings – When we eat too much sugar it simply triggers a need for more sugar. That can lead to obesity. As we all know, fat is harder to lose as we age and can lead to health problems like diabetes, metabolic syndrome and joint pain from extra weight. Eating whole grains and protein in the morning lowers cravings and keeps the blood sugar steady throughout the day for energy and less snacking.
  • Eat wholesome foods – Natural foods are the best. They contain fewer preservatives and are full of nutrients. When we consume too many processed foods, the body becomes nutrient-deprived. Try fresh fruits, dried fruits, vegetables (fresh or frozen), whole grains (quinoa, millet, barley, oats, etc.), nuts, beans and healthy oils. You will also notice the natural flavor of foods when you eat them fresh.
  • Take a multivitamin – It is hard to get all of your nutrients each day. A multivitamin helps to boost the levels of certain vitamins and minerals in your body. Ones that seniors often are deficient in include calcium, vitamin D and B vitamins.
  • Drink plenty of water – Taking many medications can sometimes deplete your internal water supply. Drinking water aids in digestion, fat loss and absorption of necessary minerals.
